Supporting vulnerable communities in South Lebanon through health, development and community resilience programmes in one of the country’s most sensitive border regions.
What We Do?
The Arkoub area, located in the Nabatieh Governorate within the Hasbaya district, is one of the vulnerable regions in Lebanon and hosts approximately 5,000 Syrian refugees alongside 10,000 Lebanese residents.
Amel Association International has been operating the Arkoub Health & Development Center in Kfarhamam since 2021. Originally opened in 2001, the center serves as a vital humanitarian and health hub for local communities.
The center covers 14 villages and is located in a highly sensitive area due to its proximity to occupied Palestine and the Syrian border, where communities are regularly exposed to instability and heightened tensions.
Primary Health Care
The center contributes to improving access to essential health care services for vulnerable Lebanese residents and Syrian refugees living in remote border communities.
Health activities support prevention, medical follow-up and dignified access to care in underserved areas facing recurring socio-economic and security challenges.
Community Support
Through integrated humanitarian and social programmes, the center strengthens resilience and social cohesion among communities affected by displacement, isolation and regional tensions.
Activities focus on supporting vulnerable families and improving access to essential services in rural and border areas.
Development & Resilience
The center works closely with local communities to strengthen local capacities and support sustainable development initiatives adapted to the needs of the region.
Its long-term presence contributes to enhancing community resilience in an area heavily impacted by instability and economic hardship.
Border Area Support
Located near occupied Palestine and the Syrian border, the center plays a critical role in maintaining access to humanitarian and health services for isolated communities.
The center remains committed to protecting dignity, strengthening solidarity and supporting vulnerable populations in times of crisis.
