Amel Association International supports older people through a holistic, community-based approach that promotes health, dignity, protection, social connection, and active participation in community life.
Care, Dignity, and Inclusion
The programme reaches bedridden, homebound, isolated, and vulnerable older people with medical care, psychosocial support, rehabilitation, case management, home assistance, and advocacy for age-friendly communities.
Needs
- Physical health and mobility challenges, including being bedridden, homebound, or living with a disability.
- Economic and social barriers limiting access to medication, healthcare, and transportation.
- Social isolation, neglect, and lack of safe community spaces.
- Anxiety, depression, loneliness, grief, and emotional distress.
- Protection risks, including physical or psychological harm and denial of resources or services.
Programme Approach
The programme combines home-based care, center-based activities, psychosocial support, rehabilitation, basic needs assistance, empowerment, advocacy, and technical leadership through the Ageing Unit.
Key Interventions
Medical & Pharmaceutical Care
Home-based medical consultations, nursing care, laboratory tests, screening, chronic and acute medications, assistive devices, hygiene products, and pharmacist reviews to prevent harmful drug interactions.
Mental Health & Psychosocial Support
Community-based in-home group sessions, center-based social activities, and individual psychotherapy to address isolation, grief, depression, anxiety, and emotional distress.
Physical Rehabilitation
Personalized physiotherapy sessions to manage chronic pain, support mobility, prevent disability, and improve daily functioning.
Case Management
Comprehensive assessments, tailored care plans, individualized follow-up, and internal or external referrals according to each person’s needs.
Basic Needs & Support Services
Volunteer-led home cleaning, household support, and delivery of nutritious hot meals to reduce isolation, improve hygiene, and prevent malnutrition.
Empowerment & Advocacy
Livelihood activities such as soap making, candle making, and barber services, along with leadership, communication, advocacy training, and meetings with municipalities to promote age-friendly policies.
The Ageing Unit
A training hub and technical resource center that promotes evidence-based policies, sustainable support systems, and long-term protection for older people.
