On the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of the Sabra and Shatila massacre, Dr. Kamel Mohanna, President of Amel Association International, received European and Arab delegations at the Douris Primary Health Care Center, in the presence of Farid Tufaili, Deputy Mayor of Douris. The solidarity visit aimed to express support for the Palestinian people and to denounce the ongoing crimes committed against them.
Mohanna: Sabra and Shatila Are Repeated in Gaza
Dr. Mohanna stressed that “the Sabra and Shatila massacres have not ended, but are being repeated today in Gaza on a wider and more horrific scale.” He noted that “more than 64,000 martyrs, including 20,000 children, have fallen so far, in what has become the largest humanitarian tragedy since the two World Wars.”
He pointed to the famine and genocide taking place under the ongoing siege of Gaza, declaring: “This crime must stop immediately. The world cannot remain silent in the face of daily extermination and systematic destruction.” He called for “tangible actions from Arab and Islamic states, and real decisions that put an end to double standards.”
Recalling the recent sit-in organized with Médecins Sans Frontières at Martyrs’ Square in Beirut, he added: “Doctors cannot stop wars, but world leaders can.”
Delegations: What Is Happening Is Genocide, Silence Is Complicity
The participating foreign and Arab delegations expressed their deep solidarity with the Palestinian people. Italian journalists Mirca Garutti and Milena Rebecchi affirmed that “what is happening today in Gaza amounts to a full-fledged genocide, and the silence of the world is complicity in this crime.”
Arab representatives also called for a unified stance that rises to the level of the challenges, emphasizing that “the Palestinian tragedy is no longer only a Palestinian issue, but a global humanitarian cause that touches the conscience of humanity.” They demanded an immediate end to the genocide, the lifting of the siege, and the rejection of displacement and ethnic cleansing projects, stressing that “history will not forgive those who stand by as spectators in the face of this catastrophe.”
Closing Message
The meeting concluded with a call to expand both popular and official solidarity movements with Palestine, to exert pressure on international institutions to take immediate action, and to recognize the anniversary of Sabra and Shatila as part of the ongoing struggle against the massacres committed against the Palestinian people.
