Solidarity Gathering at Martyrs’ Square – Beirut

As part of the global campaign for #Gaza, launched by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) under the slogan “Doctors Can’t Stop a Genocide – World Leaders Can”, and in cooperation with Amel Association International, the MSF Regional Office in Lebanon organized a solidarity gathering this afternoon at Martyrs’ Square – Beirut, urging world leaders to act to stop the genocide in Gaza and to express support for medical teams working under fire.

During the event, Dr. Kamel Mohanna, President of Amel Association International, delivered a joint statement underscoring that this initiative stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza and with frontline medical staff risking their lives to provide healthcare and humanitarian assistance.

Joint Statement

“Today, we – Médecins Sans Frontières and Amel Association International – gather here as humanitarian and medical organizations to raise our voices in solidarity with the people of Gaza and our colleagues working under fire. We stress that the silence of the world is no longer acceptable, and that the time has come for immediate action to end the genocide in Gaza.”

The statement emphasized that what is happening in Gaza goes beyond a humanitarian catastrophe, amounting to systematic genocide. Gaza has become a “mass grave” as a result of indiscriminate bombing and an ongoing blockade that deprives civilians of essential supplies.

According to reported figures, more than 64,000 people have been killed, including 20,000 children. Thousands of bodies remain under the rubble. Hospitals, protected under international law, have been bombed and stormed, with none operating at full capacity and the few remaining collapsing under the weight of overwhelming patient numbers and severe shortages of medicines and equipment.

The blockade imposed by Israel denies people fuel, food, water, and medicine. Famine is no longer a risk but a reality, with confirmed starvation deaths in Gaza. Food aid has been cynically weaponized, while humanitarian operations face critical shortages and a lack of safe access.

Meanwhile, in the West Bank, Palestinians face mass forced displacement by Israeli forces and settlers, heightening the risk of ethnic cleansing.

The organizations stressed that this is not Israel’s crime alone; world governments are complicit through their political, military, and financial support. They carry a moral and legal obligation to respond with real political pressure—not empty words—using every diplomatic, political, and economic tool to stop the atrocities.

Key Demands

  • End the genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

  • Halt ethnic cleansing and forced displacement in the West Bank.

  • Secure an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza.

  • Lift the blockade and allow large-scale, independent humanitarian aid to enter without obstruction.

  • Stop attacks on medical facilities and healthcare workers.

  • Allow urgent medical evacuations for those in critical condition.

  • End the transfer of weapons that kill and maim civilians.

  • End the occupation and guarantee the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

A Message from Beirut to the World

From the heart of Martyrs’ Square, participants concluded the gathering with one united message:
“Doctors can’t stop a genocide… World leaders can. They must act now.”
