Delivering health care, child protection, psychosocial support and youth empowerment services for vulnerable communities in the West Bekaa.
What We Do?
Located in the West Bekaa on the eastern slope of Mount Niha, Mashghara is known for its social and cultural diversity, representing a unique “small Lebanon” with a rich confessional and community composition.
The village hosts approximately 10,000 residents during winter and up to 16,000 people during weekends and summer periods. It also serves as a central hub for surrounding villages including Aitana, Ain el Tineh, Saghbine, Jeb Jennine, Qaraoun, Kherbet Kanafar and Jawzeh.
The Mashghara catchment area hosts around 70,000 Syrian refugees alongside 56,000 Lebanese host community members.
In 2010, Amel Association International expanded its activities in West Bekaa through the establishment of the Hajj Mehdi Saleh Eidi Center, thanks to the support of Mrs. Rabha Eidi and her family, to respond to the growing needs of vulnerable populations in the region.
Child Protection
With the support of UNICEF, the center implements child protection and psychosocial support activities for children aged 6 to 15.
Programmes aim to strengthen resilience, emotional well-being and coping mechanisms among children affected by displacement and crisis.
Awareness sessions and parenting skills programmes are also organized for women and men to increase awareness on key child protection issues.
Health Services
The center’s medical units provide general consultations, medicine distribution, vaccination campaigns in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health and UNICEF, awareness sessions and referrals.
Specialized consultations include gynecology, obstetrics, pediatrics, dermatology and physiotherapy services in exceptional cases.
Activities are implemented in collaboration with Medico International.
Mobile Medical Unit
A mobile medical unit funded by Medico International extends services to surrounding communities and vulnerable displaced families.
The mobile programme includes consultations, medicine distribution, vaccinations, social counseling, awareness sessions and referrals.
Livelihood & Youth Empowerment
Refugee and host community youth benefit from livelihood programmes funded by the French Embassy.
Activities include English language courses, computer literacy, vocational training, internships and community service opportunities.
Additional psychosocial support activities include recreational programmes, life-skills training and psychological counseling.
