Amel Launches Comic Book on Street-Connected Children in Lebanon

Amel Association International, in partnership with Samusocial International and with the generous support of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (Crisis and Support Centre – CDCS), is proud to present the comic book “At the Crossroads of Tomorrow.”

This unique publication sheds light on the daily realities and challenges faced by street-connected children in Lebanon, particularly in Beirut and its southern suburbs. Through powerful and engaging visual storytelling, the comic book amplifies the voices of children whose lives are often hidden from the public eye. It captures not only their struggles with exclusion, violence, and marginalization, but also their resilience, dreams, and aspirations for a better tomorrow.

The initiative is part of Amel’s Mobile Protection Unit (MPU) project, launched in 2017 in collaboration with Samusocial International. The MPU responds to the urgent needs of children, youth, and their families by providing protection, healthcare, education, and psychosocial support directly in the spaces where they live and work. By bringing services to hard-to-reach areas, the MPU helps bridge the gap between vulnerable communities and essential resources.

“At the Crossroads of Tomorrow” goes beyond documentation—it is an advocacy tool designed to raise awareness among the public, policymakers, and international stakeholders. It seeks to challenge stereotypes, foster empathy, and encourage dialogue about the rights of children who are often invisible in society. By offering a window into their world, the comic book highlights the importance of inclusive social protection policies and community-based interventions.

Illustrated by Sara Abo Shousha, a Beirut-based artist passionate about bringing authentic stories to life, the book reflects the lived experiences of children in their own words and perspectives. Each page is a testimony to their courage and a call to action for society to stand with them.

This project reflects Amel’s enduring commitment to promoting the rights and dignity of every child. By combining creativity with advocacy, “At the Crossroads of Tomorrow” demonstrates how art can become a powerful medium for change—bridging communities, inspiring action, and shaping a more just and compassionate future.
