In a field visit resonating with deep humanitarian meaning, Dr. Kamel Mohanna, president of the Amel Association International, welcomed a high-level delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), led by Ms. Karolina Lindholm Billing, UNHCR Representative in Lebanon, at Amel’s Human Capacity Development Center in Haret Hreik.
Accompanied by protection officers and field staff, the visit highlighted a long-standing partnership that has spanned over four decades of joint action, united by a shared commitment to human rights and dignity — without discrimination.
Youth Voices Take Center Stage
The visit began with a heartfelt dialogue session between the UNHCR delegation and a group of Amel’s Youth Outreach Volunteers, who shared personal stories and the harsh challenges they face amidst Lebanon’s deepening crises.
The youth expressed their concerns about access to education and employment, and their need for support spaces to become active players in their communities.
Ms. Karolina emphasized the importance of not just listening, but actively integrating these voices into the UN’s strategic thinking, stressing that youth perspectives must shape future programs.
A Tour Through the “Frontlines of Humanitarian Response”
Following the session, Dr. Mohanna, accompanied by Ms. Daniella Khalil, Ms. Manal Ghlayini, and Amel’s team, led the delegation through the center’s various departments — health, psychosocial, and social services — showcasing Amel’s integrated and dignified humanitarian model, which supports both vulnerable Lebanese communities and refugees.
The visit reflected the pivotal role Amel’s centers continue to play amid Lebanon’s ongoing crises, offering vital services and restoring hope where systems are failing.
A Renewed Partnership with a Shared Vision
In his remarks, Dr. Mohanna expressed deep appreciation for Amel’s enduring partnership with UNHCR and other UN agencies, stating:
“This relationship is more than a collaboration — it’s a shared mission rooted in ethics and humanity. Today, it is renewed with an unwavering vision: to place the human being at the heart of every action, without exception.”
A Message of Hope and Shared Responsibility
This was not just a ceremonial visit — it was a moment of mutual reflection and reaffirmed commitment to protecting human dignity. It underscored that effective humanitarian work begins with listening, acting collaboratively, and empowering communities, especially young people, as drivers of justice, dignity, and inclusive development.
