Dr. Kamel Mohanna, President of Amel Association International and General Coordinator of the Lebanese NGOs Network, received H.E. Dr. Kamal Bouchama, Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Lebanon and former Minister, accompanied by Dr. Abdel Raouf Hijazi, advisor to the Lebanese Parliament, at Amel’s main headquarters in Haret Hreik – Beirut, in the presence of Dr. Ahmad Abboud, the organization’s Director.
Dr. Mohanna welcomed the visiting delegation and paid tribute to the glorious Algerian Revolution, which served as a beacon for freedom-seeking peoples and sacrificed over a million martyrs in the struggle against colonialism. He added:
“The Algerian Revolution was not only a national liberation epic but also remains a living Arab conscience that carries Palestine and the causes of the Arab nation in its heart and actions, offering hope and inspiration to peoples across the region.”President of Amel Association International and General Coordinator of the Lebanese NGOs Network
Dr. Mohanna also praised the lifelong struggle and rich intellectual and cultural contributions of Ambassador Bouchama, commending his steadfast commitment to the values of liberation and justice, as well as his service to his homeland, the Arab world, and humanitarian causes.
He went on to present a brief overview of the Amel Association International’s journey, which emerged as a social and humanitarian movement born in the heart of war and crisis. Its mission has always centered on liberating people from injustice and dependency by empowering them and unlocking their potential. Dr. Mohanna emphasized that Amel was born from suffering—amidst the Israeli invasion of Lebanon and the civil war—and continues to fulfill its humanitarian and national duty.
“Amel, powered by over 2,300 staff and volunteers operating in 40 centers and 24 mobile clinics across Lebanon through various development and human rights programs, is a miniature version of the Lebanon we dream of—one that works miracles with minimal resources and holds fast to its role as a beacon of humanity and progress.”
He reaffirmed the organization’s decades-long commitment to the causes of oppressed peoples, especially the Palestinian cause, stressing that Amel has never been merely a service provider, but rather a civilian resistance movement addressing the root causes of suffering: poverty, marginalization, occupation, and exploitation.

The visit included a field tour of Amel’s Human Capacity Development Center in Haret Hreik, where the delegation explored the wide array of programs implemented in the five-floor facility. These include protection, empowerment, education, and primary healthcare services, which form the backbone of Amel’s vision rooted in social justice, equality, and human dignity.
For his part, Ambassador Bouchama expressed deep admiration for Amel’s pioneering experience and the work of Dr. Hijazi, recognizing the organization’s unwavering commitment to the people and its consistent, community-based approach, grounded in citizenship, diversity, and human rights values.
He added that the organization’s work represents a unique model of independent Arab humanitarian action, deeply rooted in its society, resonating with the spirit of the Algerian Revolution, which has always considered dignity and freedom as the foundations of any social project.
The visit concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation and integration between Algeria, its government and people, and the active forces of the Arab world, including governments, institutions, civil society, intellectual and cultural figures, and diplomats. Together, they aim to build a future of greater justice and equity for the region’s peoples, especially in light of the centrality of the Palestinian cause, the ongoing genocide in Gaza, and the need to confront fragmentation projects with unity, solidarity, and a rational vision.
