Reflecting a long-standing humanitarian alliance, Dr. Kamel Mohanna, President of Amel Association International, welcomed a high-level delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) at the Human Skills Development Center in Haret Hreik. The delegation was led by Ms. Carolina Lindholm Billing, UNHCR Representative in Lebanon, accompanied by senior protection officers and field team members.

This visit marks another milestone in the over 40-year strategic partnership between Amel and UNHCR—one grounded in joint fieldwork and an unwavering commitment to serve all people with dignity, equality, and without discrimination.

Youth Voices at the Heart of the Dialogue

The visit began with a roundtable discussion with a group of “Youth Outreach Volunteers”, who shared their daily struggles and aspirations amid Lebanon’s ongoing economic and social crises. Topics raised included access to education, job opportunities, and the urgent need for safe spaces that empower youth to become active agents of change.
Ms. Billing stressed the importance of amplifying youth voices within the UN system, ensuring that future programs are better aligned with their realities and needs.

A Field Tour Anchored in Dignity and Justice

Dr. Mohanna accompanied the delegation on a tour of the center’s health, psychosocial, and social support departments. The visit highlighted Amel’s holistic, community-based approach, which ensures access to services for vulnerable populations—both local and refugee communities—through a rights-based, inclusive model.

The tour served as a powerful reminder of the vital role Amel’s centers have played amid Lebanon’s cascading crises, maintaining a steadfast commitment to equity and protection for all.

A Humanitarian Partnership Renewed with Purpose

During the visit, Dr. Mohanna expressed his deep appreciation for Amel’s historic collaboration with UNHCR and other UN agencies.

“Our partnership is not just about cooperation—it’s a shared journey in defending human dignity,” said Dr. Mohanna. “This 40-year alliance continues today with renewed energy and a common vision: to protect people’s rights and uphold justice for all, without exception.”
