Amel's Centers Dignity and justice for all
Amel Association International was founded in the midst of the Lebanese civil war (1975-1990) that destroyed the country and with it an entire nation. Amel, along with the support of people from different backgrounds in Lebanon, faced all odds within the Lebanese society, and worked with enthusiasm in social, medical, development and humanitarian fields. This mission needed an effective presence in all over the country, especially in marginalized areas, so through its 24 Primary Health Care Centers and 6 Mobile Medical Units, Amel has been involved for more than 36 years in Lebanon’s most vulnerable areas in Beirut’s southern suburbs, Mount Lebanon and the Bekaa valley (Lebanon East), all the way to South Lebanon. We have offered through these centers 8 million services for to the people of Lebanon since Amel’s creation and 1.6 million interventions with the Syrian refugees through the past 6 years. Amel Association International headquarter includes Amel House of Human Rights (AHHR) which is aiming to develop advanced programs related to Law and Human Rights in collaboration with Universite La Sagesse in Lebanon.
The HaretHreik area (southern suburb of Beirut) is one of the most vulnerable in Lebanon. 50,000 Syrian refugees and 50,000 Lebanese citizens live in this region. Amel has been operating a center in HaretHreik since 2009, responding to the refugee’s crisis in order to empower marginalized Lebanese and Palestinian host communities. In this context, Amel is implementing activities related to the following sectors: health, protection, education, vocational training and food security.

The area of Ain El Remaneh (suburb of Beirut) is one of the most vulnerable in Lebanon. 5,000 Syrian refugees and 10,000 Lebanese live in this region. Amel operates it’s center in Ain El Remaneh since 2007, targeting Iraqi refugees and marginalized Lebanese and Palestinian host communities. A series of empowering projects are being implemented at this center since then related to the following sectors: protection, education, vocational training and food security.
The area of Hay El Sellom (southern suburb of Beirut, administrative region of Mount Lebanon) is one of the most vulnerable in Lebanon and hosts 10,000 Syrian refugees and 20,000 Lebanese. Amel operates on-site through a health / training center since 1980.
Amel has operated a centre in Bourj El Barajneh since 1982, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health and YMCA, in order to support both Lebanese and Palestinian refugees in the camp. According to UNRWA more than 20,000 Palestinian refugees live in the camp, though originally only 10,000 were planned to live in the one square kilo meter site. After the crisis in Syria, many Syrian refugees moved to the camp, dramatically increasing its population. The camp conditions are horrible, and many deaths are recorded every year from electrocution and collapsing buildings
The center was created during the Lebanese Civil War and was part of the first responders during the 2006 Israeli aggression. Currently, there are mainly two projects implemented in Khiam: primary health care activities and psycho-social support for elderly populations.
Bazourieh Center was established in 1981 during the civil war as a small clinic which developed into a maternity center as well as the health clinic. It continued to provide medical and social services to the residents of the town and the neighboring villages located on the axis of Tire - Tibnin - Bint Jbeil for 35 years.

The Marjayoun center hosts a dialogue project, gathering youths living in the area, around community projects and capacity building opportunities.
The Center was established in 2004 in collaboration with Italian organization Africa’ 70 to produce soap and extraction of aromatic oils in addition to train farmers to use modern farming methods and food manufacturing.
In 2010, Amel expanded its activities in the West Bekaa region. Thanks to the support of Mrs. Rabha Eidi and her family the center of Hajj Mehdi Saleh Eidi Centre was opened. This new facility was built to answer to the needs of the underprivileged population living in the region.

Amel started its activities with Kamed El lawz community in 1988, mainly to support Lebanese citizens in the area during the crucial civil war. The center is now providing medical, social and educational services as well as chronic medication project for the elderly targeting town residents and displaced Syrians in collaboration with Help Age international.
