Situation Update and Humanitarian Needs Assessment

Escalating hostilities across Lebanon are triggering mass displacement, civilian casualties, and urgent humanitarian needs, as thousands of families flee airstrikes and seek safety in overcrowded shelters nationwide.

With more than four decades of experience providing neutral, impartial, and community based assistance in times of crisis, Amel Association International stands as a frontline humanitarian organization in Lebanon. Through its extensive nationwide presence, particularly in South Lebanon and Beirut, Amel has built strong relationships with local communities and institutions. This longstanding engagement enables the organization to respond rapidly during emergencies, ensuring trusted community access and the swift deployment of coordinated humanitarian assistance to those most in need.

Amel’s Experience in Crisis Response

Amel Association International, a Lebanese non sectarian and independent NGO founded in 1979, has been working for more than 45 years across the most vulnerable regions of Lebanon. Through a nationwide network of 40 centers, 10 mobile medical units, 2 mobile education units, and 2 mobile protection units, Amel delivers accessible and quality services in health care, protection, livelihoods, food security, education, and the promotion of human rights. Over the past four decades, Amel has consistently mobilized large scale emergency responses during major crises affecting Lebanon, including the 2006 Israeli war, when it provided vital assistance to displaced populations in highly volatile contexts. Building on this extensive experience, and in response to the escalating crisis since October 8, 2023, Amel established a dedicated crisis cell to coordinate the association’s humanitarian response both internally and with national and international partners.

In parallel, Amel also focuses its efforts on ensuring the continuity of its operations, throughout Lebanon, and enables a dignified access to basic human rights, in the health, education, protection, food security and livelihood sectors, to 40,000 individuals in its centers and mobile units, every month.
