Amel is a non-governmental and non-sectarian organization, created in 1979 by Dr. Kamel Mohanna and a group of doctors, journalists & activists in response to the Israeli aggression in southern Lebanon in 1978 and the atrocities of the Lebanese civil war. Amel is offering dignified and accessible programs for all in the following fields: Health, psychosocial support, professional training, women empowerment, rural development, support to migrants, protection, and human rights. For five decades, through peacebuilding and humanitarian efforts, Amel has been an example of how national NGOs can make a difference by empowering marginalized people, while strengthening inter-community dialogue, throughout the multiple crises experienced by all who reside in Lebanon.
