Yesterday, Amel Association International organized a breast cancer awareness campaign at the Shiyah Municipal Garden, as part of the global “Pink October” initiative dedicated to promoting early detection and prevention.
The event gathered residents, health advocates, and community members, in the presence of Dr. Zeina Mohanna, member of Amel’s Executive Board, and Mr. Jean Nehme, Head of Social Affairs at the Municipality of Shiyah. Mohanna emphasized the importance of early detection, awareness, and community solidarity in saving lives and promoting women’s health.
The campaign featured educational sessions on prevention methods, and the distribution of informational leaflets prepared by Amel’s medical teams, in collaboration with the municipality and Amel’s network of health centers. Women of various ages also took part in open discussions addressing the psychological and social aspects of coping with breast cancer, underscoring the need to overcome stigma and fear associated with the disease.
With deep sorrow, Amel Association received the news of the passing of Mr. Jean Nehme, only hours after his participation in the event. Mr. Nehme was a devoted public servant and a committed advocate for his community.
Amel Association International extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, and colleagues at the Municipality of Shiyah, wishing them strength and comfort in this difficult time.
This campaign stands as a message of life, hope, and resilience, honoring the memory of all those who dedicated themselves to humanitarian service and the defense of human dignity without discrimination.
