At a moment when Lebanon is going through one of the harshest chapters in its modern history, Amel Association International stands alongside its people, as it has always done, at the heart of the field and among communities. The dangerous escalation currently unfolding in the country has resulted in a widespread humanitarian tragedy. Hundreds of thousands of families have been forced to leave their homes, while hundreds of shelters have become overcrowded with displaced families lacking the most basic conditions of a dignified life. What the Lebanese people are experiencing today is not merely a passing crisis, but a profound humanitarian ordeal that threatens social stability and human dignity, placing the future of the country before unprecedented challenges.
Throughout its modern history, Lebanon has endured numerous crises, yet it has remained resilient thanks to the determination of its people and the support of friends around the world. Today, more than ever, Lebanon needs this solidarity to be translated into concrete support and tangible assistance. In this spirit, Amel Association extends a sincere appeal to Lebanese communities in the diaspora, who have always stood by their homeland during its most difficult moments, as well as to Lebanon’s friends everywhere, and to the international community and its humanitarian institutions, to stand with the Lebanese people at this critical moment.
Amel Association, which was born out of crises more than four decades ago, is today placing all its capacities at the service of people in need. The organization operates through a national network that includes 40 health and social centers and 23 mobile medical units serving the most affected areas, led by more than 2,300 dedicated staff members and volunteers committed to the dignity and well-being of communities. Despite the harsh circumstances, these teams continue their humanitarian work with determination, even though more than half of them are themselves displaced or directly affected by the events. Nevertheless, they persist in carrying out their mission, because standing by people is not merely a slogan, but a daily responsibility.
Across various regions of Lebanon, Amel’s teams work day and night to provide essential healthcare, psychosocial support, and critical assistance to families who have suddenly found themselves without shelter or resources. These efforts are carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Social Affairs, and local authorities including municipalities, civil society organizations, and active humanitarian actors. The association also pays special attention to the most vulnerable groups, including children, women, older persons, patients, persons with disabilities, and migrant workers, who are often the most exposed to exclusion during crises.
In response to this escalating humanitarian tragedy, Amel Association is launching an urgent appeal for donations to support its humanitarian response efforts and enable it to expand its services and reach hundreds of thousands of people in need across the country. Every contribution, no matter how modest, can become medical treatment for a patient, food for a family, or a moment of safety for a child who has lost their sense of stability.
Lebanon today needs the solidarity of its people and friends everywhere. History has shown that this country, despite its wounds, has always risen again through the determination of its people and the support of those who care for it around the world. Amel therefore renews its sincere appeal to Lebanese communities abroad, to friends of Lebanon, and to the states and donors that have consistently supported the Lebanese people and the organization’s humanitarian programs over the past forty-seven years.
