In 2021, Lebanon stood at a perilous crossroad, gripped by a compound economic crisis and the unrelenting waves of the COVID-19 pandemic. Amidst the deepening hardship, Amel Association International—a non-sectarian civil society organization driven by the principles of positive thinking and permanent optimism—served as a crucial lifeline for communities across the nation.
From the narrow streets of Beirut to the remote informal settlements in the Bekaa Valley and South Lebanon, Amel’s 1,200 dedicated workers and vast network of 28 community centers brought dignity and aid to those most in need.
When healthcare systems struggled under pressure, Amel’s Mobile Medical Units and rapid response teams carried essential home-based care and life-saving oxygen directly to isolated COVID-19 patients. Over 20,000 refugees and thousands of vulnerable migrants received critical vaccinations to slow the virus’s spread. At the same time, mobile education units brought classrooms on wheels to children living in tented settlements, ensuring that learning and psychosocial support never ceased despite the pandemic’s disruptions.
Amel’s reach extended beyond emergency health response to encompass human dignity at every level:

Livelihoods & Self-Sufficiency: Thousands of food parcels and hot meals were distributed, while sustainable agriculture initiatives and the “Menna” shop empowered local women through craft workshops and income-generating opportunities.

Protecting the Marginalized: Over 9,700 migrant domestic workers received legal aid, health consultations, and voluntary return assistance, countering systemic vulnerabilities.

Mental Health & Youth: Specialized counselors provided mental health care across all centers, reducing social stigma, while youth sports and leadership programs fostered social cohesion and life skills.
Through every mobile clinic, health center, and community workshop, Amel proved that principled human solidarity can bring hope and resilience to even the toughest circumstances.
