This project funded by UNHCR, aims to improve the health status of Syrian Refugees in South Lebanon, by providing access to basic healthcare through subsidized primary healthcare services including management of acute and chronic diseases, vaccination, reproductive health, basic laboratory tests, imaging and essential medicines.
Emphasis is based on provision of Ante-Natal Care Package and Non Communicable Disease package. The community health component of this project will help educate refugees on available services and encourage health seeking behaviors by facilitating referrals to nearby PHCCs.
Through this project, Amel is striving to improve the quality of care at the supported-PHCs by providing continuous capacity building to the centers and health providers, closely monitoring data from the Health Information System to identify any worrying trends, conducting regular visits to the PHCCs, and by supporting the MoPH staff at clinics and Ministry offices. A series of capacity building trainings was launched in 2017 at the PHCs and program levels aiming to ensure consistency, quality, accountability and impact of the services provided throughout the project.
In all areas, Amel continually assesses clinics that are currently supported by UNHCR to ensure the quality of services, and capacity to implement quality improvement measures is an important factor in Amel’s selection of PHCCs for support.
All of Amel’s health team is involved in monitoring quality of services at PHCs.
On the field level, Amel will continue monitoring the performance of the PHC’s according to a quality improvement plan that will be produced by Amel that is based on MoPH and international standards and tailored for each individual PHC.
These core standards apply to all facility and staff and cover the service design, human resources, structure, medical equipment, infection prevention and control, pharmacy, medical services and facility management.
Through this project, more than 20,000 Syrian refugees will have access to primary healthcare services, and it will follow during 2017 the age, gender and diversity mainstreaming approach.
