UNIFIL Donates Fully-Equipped Mobile Medical Clinic to Amel Association International to Support War-Affected Communities in South Lebanon

In a powerful show of solidarity and humanitarian commitment, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) officially handed over a fully-equipped mobile medical clinic to Amel Association International at Amel’s headquarters in Beirut.

The donation comes at a critical time, as Amel works to restore essential programs in South Lebanon, particularly in the Khiam–Marjeyoun area, where several of its health centers were severely damaged during the 2024 Israeli aggression against Lebanon. The new mobile unit will be deployed to provide lifesaving primary healthcare services to displaced families and vulnerable communities across remote villages in the region.

Outfitted with comprehensive medical equipment, the mobile clinic will be staffed by a multidisciplinary team comprising a doctor, nurse, midwife, and social worker. Together, they will deliver a wide range of services, including medical consultations, maternal health care, psychosocial support, and health awareness sessions—with special attention to the needs of women, children, and the older persons.

“This generous contribution from UNIFIL is more than a donation—it is a message of hope and a testament to the power of international cooperation in times of crisis,” said Dr. Kamel Mohanna, Founder and President of Amel Association International. “It allows us to continue reaching those who have lost access to healthcare and are in urgent need of support.”

The new unit will join Amel’s network of 23 mobile clinics, which played a pivotal role in 2024 by offering free healthcare services to over 395,000 people across Beirut, Mount Lebanon, the South, and the Beqaa. With 711,897 health interventions recorded last year, Amel’s mobile teams have been essential in bridging the healthcare gap for communities affected by war, economic collapse, and displacement. These clinics deliver integrated services ranging from medication distribution to psychological support and referral pathways for specialized care.

Amel’s mobile clinics are not just vehicles—they are a lifeline for communities cut off from stable healthcare infrastructure. They reflect the association’s long-standing mission to uphold the right to health for all and provide inclusive, community-based care that transcends political and geographical barriers.

Founded in 1979 during Lebanon’s civil war, Amel has evolved from an emergency responder to a nationwide development actor, offering holistic programs in health, education, protection, and empowerment. The organization continues to build a future rooted in dignity, justice, and equal opportunity, especially for those most at risk.
