Amel Association Social Worker Wafaa Allaw Wins First Place at Beirut International Marathon

Share

The streets of Beirut came alive on Thursday with the vibrant spirit of resilience and determination as thousands of runners from across Lebanon and around the world participated in the 21st edition of the Beirut International Marathon. Among the standout participants was Wafaa Allaw, a dedicated social worker at Amel Association International, who secured first place in the 10 KM race – Female 65–69 category.

Wafaa, who works at Amel’s community development center in Haret Hreik, represented the spirit of perseverance and hope that defines both the theme of this year’s marathon – “Running from the Finish Line to the Starting Point” – and the values of Amel Association. The theme symbolizes the Lebanese people’s quest for a new beginning after enduring years of hardship.

This is not Wafaa’s first appearance on the winner’s podium. She previously achieved second place in the Beirut Half Marathon, and placed 32nd in the 5 KM Christmas Marathon 2024, showcasing her consistent passion and dedication to both sports and social work.

Held to the highest international standards, the Beirut International Marathon this year included several races: the full marathon (42 km), half marathon (21 km), 10 km races for competitive runners and persons with disabilities, and a 5 km fun run. Runners followed a symbolic reversed route—from finish line to starting point—emphasizing the journey of overcoming adversity.

Amel Association International is proud of Wafaa’s inspiring achievement and congratulates her on being a model of empowerment and endurance. Her success is a testament to the power of community engagement and the values Amel strives to uphold through its work in health, education, protection, and human rights.
